Grape variety:  Chardonnay

Producer: Brocard

Alcohol content: 13%

Origin: Burgundy, France

Notes: Characterized by its minerality and richness, Jean-Marc Brocard's Chablis Montée de Tonnerre comes from fruit that is grown on 30+ year old vines, all biodynamically farmed. Alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts in temperature controlled stainless steel vats. Malolactic fermentation completed. Aging on lees during 14 months in stainless steel vats.

Lovely, rich, concentrated wine, with notes of oyster shells and lemon. Very nice, very long finish, very pure

Critical acclaim

91-94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Bright, pale yellow with green highlights. Knockout nose combines lemon oil, peach, mandarin orange, musky stone, white flowers and mint. Dense, rich and chewy with extract; broad and very dry, with excellent cut to the grapefruit and crushed stone flavors. Finishes long and scented, with a light touch that's impressive for a wine of such large dimensions. Very minerally and refined: outstanding potential here. (8/2013)

88-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Lemon and chalk in Brocard’s 2012 Chablis Montee de Tonnerre – tasted from tank following vinification and early elevage in foudre – are intriguingly accompanied by tart and piquant suggestions of blackberry and huckleberry, culminating in a seed-crunching sense of finishing invigoration. Notes of iodine and salt add further interest to the juicy persistence of this polished and incipiently complex offering that ought to merit attention through at least 2019. (DS) (8/2013)
