Grape variety:  Shiraz

Producer: Elderton

Alcohol content: 14%

Origin: Australia

Notes: The fruit for Elderton Shiraz is sourced mainly from the Elderton Vineyard situated on the banks of the North Para River, Nuriootpa, Barossa Valley, South Australia. Elderton was transformed from a vineyard supplying quality fruit to other wineries to a winery in its own right in 1982, and have since won much recognition for all of the wines, especially the Shiraz. Barossa Shiraz is now highly collectable worldwide, and the Elderton is always a benchmark for the region.

Critical acclaim

Australian Wine Companion - "Open-fermented in waxed concrete vats with header boards, matured in American puncheons for 22 months. Full-bodied, but doesn't lose balance; black fruits have soaked up such of the new oak (if any) as was used, the end result generous complexity."

The Wine Advocate - "Deep garnet-purple, the 2013 Estate Shiraz is a 100% estate-grown Shiraz made with fruit from 15- to 116-year-old vines. The nose opens to very ripe aromas of preserved fruits, potpourri, peach blossoms and exotic spices. Big and ripe, full-bodied palate offers a rich, classically styled Shiraz with velvety tannins to frame the long and spicy finish."

Food Pairing: Meat with BBQ flavors, Olive-Crusted Lamb, Stew
